Leather bed frames are growing in popularity and can look modern and stylish in any bedroom. But how do you care for your leather bed?

The important thing to note is that caring for a leather bed is very different to caring for a wooden bed frame as leather is very different.

In order to preserve your bed and keep it looking pristine for years to come is to keep it away from any direct heat sources so away from radiators of fires if you can as this can cause it to crack and dry. However, if you do notice it starting to dry out just use a bit of petroleum jelly to hide the area and wipe off any excess. If you can keep it out of direct sunlight as well, this will stop it from fading.

However, a leather bed is hardwearing and you will only need to clean it from time to time. To do this you should only need to wipe it down with a soft cloth to wipe away any dirt and smudges. However, if stains are more persistent then you will need to use a damp cloth with a very mild detergent and for heavier cleaning make sure you invest in specific leather cleaner in order to preserve its condition.

It is also a good idea to try and not spill liquid on your bed as leather does absorb liquid, but if you do, simply dab it with a clean cloth until dry and clean.

It is also a good idea to treat your bed when you first get it to keep it looking its best. By using a leather conditioner before you first use the bed and then reapplying it every four months it will keep the bed looking pristine. Leather conditioners are widely available but make sure you read all the instructions before applying. All you need to do is rub the conditioner in leave it to soak in a bit before buffing with a clean dry cloth to keep your bed looking its best.

It is also a good idea to keep your pets away from your bed if you don’t want scuff marks on the frame.
